The 2011 Ironman Series currently consists of 27 qualifying races around the world and the Ironman World Championship race in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii in October. The series saw the addition of 4 new races to the schedule, while 2 others have quietly been removed from the 2012 calendar. Two of the new races are regional Championship races, Ironman U.S. Championship in New York and the Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship in Melbourne, Australia. The WTC gains a new race in Scandinavia with the re-branding for Ironman Kalmar while Canada gets it's second Ironman triathlon with the new Ironman Mont-Tremblant race. Ironman China, which was canceled last year in the final weeks before the race and Ironman Korea no longer appear on the schedule.

An Ironman triathlon race consists of a 2.4 mile Swim, 112 mile Bike and 26.2 mile Run or a 3.8km Swim, 180km Bike and 42.2km Run.
